AGE 7-8 – FIRST TOUCH

Aims: Develop basic technical skills of football – Catching & Kicking

Playing Rules

  1. Play commences with a throw in.
  2. No shoulder charge allowed.
  3. Four steps & one bounce before playing the ball away.
  4. Player makes clear effort to pick up ball using the foot.
  5. Frees taken from the hand by the player fouled.
  6. Player nearest the ball takes sidelines kicks.
  7. Opposing players back 5m from free taker. Forty fives taken from 20m line.  Free kicks no closer than 10m from opposing end line.
  8. Only 1 play of the ball allowed.

Playing the Game

  1. 7 x 7 a side or 9 x 9 asides only
  2. Playing Area 45m x 30m
  3. 2 points when the ball is played over the crossbar, 1 point for a goal.
  4. 4 quarters / 9 minutes per quarter
  5. Two Zones / Attackers and Defenders / Midfielders can enter either zone.
  6. All players rotate positions after each quarter. Teams change sides at half time.
  7. RESPECT initiative in place at all times to fellow players, mentors and referees.
  8. Home club to provide the referees.
  9. If possible we recommend home team provide light refreshments for parents.

 Equipment

  1. Well-secured goal posts 10ft x 6ft / Training poles may be used.
  2. 3 x First Touch (Size 1) footballs
  3. Bibs & Cones

AGE 9-10 QUICK TOUCH

Aims:
Consolidate basic technical skills of football
Encourage use of weaker foot
Develop tactical awareness of playing and use of time & space

 
Playing Rules

  1. Play commences with a throw in.
  2. Side to side shoulder permitted.
  3. Four steps & one bounce or top tap before playing the ball away.
  4. Player makes clear effort to pick up ball using the foot.
  5. Frees taken from the hand by player fouled.
  6. Nearest player to ball takes side line kicks.  
  7. Opposing players back 5m from free taker. Forty fives taken from 30m line.  Free kicks no closer than 13m from opposing end line.
  8. Home team provides referee.
  9. Only 1 play of the ball allowed.

Playing the Game

  1. 7 x 7 aside or 9 x 9 (11 aside if numbers are big) aside only
  2. Playing Area 65m x 40m
  3. 1 pt when the ball is played under crossbar. 2pts for over the crossbar.
  4. 4 quarters / 10 minutes per quarter
  5. No Zones
  6. All players rotate positions after each quarter. Teams change sides at half time.
  7. RESPECT initiative in place at all times to fellow players, mentors and referees.
