David Murray Announces Retirement from Inter-County Football 

Roscommon GAA stalwart David Murray has announced his retirement from inter-county football, bringing the curtain down on a distinguished career in the primrose and blue.

A proud Pádraig Pearses clubman, Murray was a model of consistency and commitment throughout his time with Roscommon, earning widespread respect for his reliability, work rate and leadership, particularly in the defensive line. Over the course of his career, he became a mainstay of the senior panel, making 125 appearances and representing his county across multiple National League and Championship campaigns.

Murray made his senior debut against Cavan GAA in 2015, having previously enjoyed success at underage level where he helped Roscommon secure a Connacht Minor Football Championship title and two Connacht Under-21 Football Championship titles, captaining the side in 2014. Among the highlights of his senior career were Roscommon’s Connacht Senior Football Championship triumphs in 2017 and 2019, campaigns in which he played a key role along with 4 National Football League Division 2 titles (2015, 2018, 2020, 2022) and a National Football League Division 3 title (2014).

Never one to seek the spotlight, Murray’s contribution was defined by discipline, resilience and an unwavering dedication to the Roscommon cause. His longevity at the top level is a testament to his professionalism and passion for the game.

As he steps away from inter-county football, David Murray leaves behind a legacy of service and pride that will be fondly remembered by teammates, management and supporters alike. He now turns his focus to the next phase in his life, with Roscommon GAA wishing him every success in the years ahead.
