Saturday, 8 August promises to be a very special occasion at Páirc Mór Fairymount Community Memorial Garden as the community comes together for Big Rossie Day – a unique celebration of Roscommon GAA & LGFA’s rich history, remarkable achievements and the people who have shaped our games.

 

Following an extraordinary year for Roscommon GAA & LGFA, there will be much to celebrate. Our county has enjoyed success at every level, with Minor, U20 and Senior Connacht Football titles, St Brigid’s and Strokestown capturing Connacht Senior and Intermediate Club Championships, while Roscommon LGFA has experienced a remarkable year, claiming provincial honours at U16B & Minor A level in addition to the U16s & Seniors securing All-Ireland glory! All of the county’s silverware will be on display throughout the day.

 

Proceedings begin at 2.30pm with the unveiling of the new Wall of Fame, honouring Roscommon teams that have won All-Ireland titles in Football, Hurling and Camogie, while All-Ireland Handball champions will also be recognised. On the reverse side of the wall, tribute will be paid to the many officials and volunteers whose lifelong dedication has made such a lasting contribution to the GAA & LGFA in Roscommon.

 

One of the most poignant moments of the day will be a special ceremony remembering former county players who passed away at a young age, together with club players who passed while still playing the game they loved. A commemorative tree planting ceremony will take place in their honour.

 

Roscommon GAA sincerely thanks the organisers and acknowledges the effort in bringing this special garden and event to fruition. Special thanks must go to Michael Gilligan who has spear headed this initiative.

 

Everyone is encouraged to attend, with supporters advised to arrive early to allow time for parking. If you are attending on the day,  please use Eircode F45 E288. The organisers hope to welcome supporters of all ages, along with current and former players, for what promises to be a memorable afternoon. Age Ambassador and renowned Roscommon supporter Paddy Joe Burke will be a special guest.
