Roscommon GAA – Championship Glory, Special Celebrations and an Intermediate Final Showdown

October 24th, 2026

It’s been another memorable week for Roscommon GAA, with county titles decided, special milestones celebrated and plenty of people deserving of recognition. As we prepare for Sunday’s Intermediate Football Final, we look back on a busy and rewarding week across the county.

Congratulations to Our County Champions

Congratulations to St Brigid’s and St Aidan’s, winners of the Hodson Bay Group Senior and King & Moffatt Junior ‘A’ Football Championships last weekend.

Commiserations to Pádraig Pearses and Ballinameen, who played their part in two memorable finals. Both clubs can be immensely proud of their efforts, and no doubt their day will come again.

The Senior Final was a tremendous advertisement for Roscommon club football, earning Clubber’s Pick for Game of the Weekend – fitting recognition for a thrilling contest.

A Huge Thank You to Our Hyde Park Team

Sincere thanks to the Hyde Park Committee, the Events Team, stewards and everyone behind the scenes who ensured last weekend’s finals and ceremonies ran so smoothly.

The magnificent condition of the pitch drew widespread praise and was a credit to those responsible for its preparation and upkeep. Your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Special thanks also to Sarah Keane (Elphin GAA) and Chloe McGuinness (St Michael’s GAA) for their beautiful renditions of Amhrán na bhFiann at last weekend’s county finals.

Celebrating Roscommon Gaels’ 2001 Champions

It was wonderful to welcome the Roscommon Gaels 2001 Senior Football Championship-winning team back to The Hyde last weekend, as they were honoured on the 25th anniversary of their county title triumph. A special occasion for the players, management and everyone associated with that memorable achievement. We hope you enjoyed the occasion.

Pictured above L-R are Cian Higgins (St Brigid’s), Adam Reddington (St Ciarans/Fuerty) and Edward Leonard (St Brigid’s) who were guests of honour at the unveiling of the wheelchair-accessible viewing and sanitary facilities in Dr Hyde Park last weekend.

Two Important Milestones at Dr Hyde Park

Last weekend also marked two significant developments at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park.

Saturday saw the official unveiling of the Patrons Wall, a lasting tribute to the individuals and families whose names now have a permanent place at our county grounds. Read more HERE .

On Sunday, the new age-friendly and accessible facilities, including wheelchair-accessible viewing and sanitary facilities, were officially opened – another important step towards making The Hyde welcoming and inclusive for all.

Sincere thanks to everyone who helped bring these important improvements to fruition, particularly the Roscommon GAA Infrastructure Committee, for their dedication and hard work in making them a reality.

If you’re attending Sunday’s Intermediate Final, why not arrive a little earlier and visit the Patrons Wall?

A limited number of spaces remain available for those wishing to honour a loved one, recognise their family or secure their own place on the wall.

Further details: can be found on  HYDE PARK Patrons Wall HERE or contact the Roscommon GAA County Board Office.

All Eyes on Dublin for Our All-Star Nominees!

Best of luck to Diarmuid Murtagh and Darragh Heneghan at the PwC GAA All-Stars Gala Banquet in Dublin on Friday, 30th October.

An All-Star nomination is a tremendous honour and richly deserved recognition of both players’ contributions to Roscommon football this season.

We’ll all be watching with eagle eyes to see if either of the lads gets the nod!

Both players have been kitted out for the occasion by Donnellan & Co. Roscommon, and we must say, they’re looking very sharp indeed! Sincere thanks to Donnellan & Co. for ensuring our representatives are as stylish off the pitch as they are impressive on it.

Whatever the outcome, Diarmuid and Darragh have done their families, clubs – St Faithleach’s and Michael Glaveys – and county proud. Enjoy every moment of the occasion, lads!

Finally, best wishes to Tulsk Lord Edwards and Éire Óg, who contest the McNulty Furniture Roscommon Intermediate Football Championship Final this Sunday, 25th October, at 2.30pm in King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park.

With the Jamsie Murray Cup and promotion to Senior football at stake, another exciting county final awaits.
