Shane Moran Steps Down as Roscommon Minor Football Manager
Roscommon GAA can confirm that Shane Moran has stepped down as Manager of the Roscommon Minor Football Team following the completion of his term in charge.
Shane departs having overseen one of the most successful periods in recent history for Roscommon Minor football. Under his leadership, Roscommon secured back-to-back Connacht Minor Football Championship titles in 2025 and 2026, while nurturing a talented group of players who will continue their development through the county pathway.
His success in 2026 formed a key part of an historic season for Roscommon football, with the county winning the Senior, Under-20 and Minor Connacht Football Championships in the same year for the first time ever. Shane’s contribution to this remarkable achievement ensured his place in one of the most memorable chapters in Roscommon GAA history.
Beyond the silverware, Shane and his management team created an environment built on commitment, discipline, teamwork and immense pride in representing Roscommon. Their dedication provided players with every opportunity to develop, not only as footballers but also as young ambassadors for their clubs and county.
Shane was supported throughout his tenure by an outstanding management team. John Rogers served as selector during the 2025 campaign, while Colm Garvey & Padraig Kelly were a constant presence across both the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Niall Carty joined the management team as a selector in 2026, with each making a significant contribution to the team’s success and the development of Roscommon’s emerging talent.
Roscommon GAA Chairperson Thomas Murray paid tribute to Shane and his management team:
“On behalf of Roscommon GAA, I would like to sincerely thank Shane and his management teams for the outstanding commitment, professionalism and leadership they have shown throughout their time with the Roscommon Minor team. Winning back-to-back Connacht Minor Championships is a tremendous achievement in itself, but to play such an important role in Roscommon’s historic Senior, Under-20 and Minor Connacht Championship treble in 2026 is something that will forever be remembered as a landmark moment in the history of our county. Shane, his management teams and players have left a lasting legacy, and we are extremely grateful for everything they have done for Roscommon football. We wish Shane and his family every success in the future.”
Roscommon GAA also extends its sincere appreciation to John Rodgers, Padraig Kelly, Colm Garvey and Niall Carty for their dedication and commitment throughout their time with the Minor panel. Sincere thanks are also extended to the players, their families, clubs across the county and everyone who supported the Minor team over the past two seasons.
The process to appoint a new Roscommon Minor Football Manager will commence in due course.
