Murtagh and Heneghan Nominated for 2026 PwC All-Star Awards

Roscommon GAA is delighted to see Diarmuid Murtagh and Darragh Heneghan recognised among the nominees for the 2026 PwC All-Star Football Awards, following outstanding seasons in the Primrose and Blue.
Roscommon captain Diarmuid Murtagh, of St Faithleach’s (pictured right, photo by Ben McShane/Sportsfile) has been one of the county’s leading players for more than a decade. He made his senior championship debut in 2014, coming off the bench against Leitrim in the Connacht Championship and marking the occasion with two points.
Murtagh had already announced himself on the national stage earlier that year, playing a starring role as Roscommon reached the All-Ireland U21 Final. He kicked the winning free against Cork in the semi-final before contributing 2-3 against Dublin in the decider.
In February 2025, Murtagh made Roscommon history when he surpassed the great Dermot Earley Snr to become the county’s all-time leading senior scorer. His 0-12 against Monaghan that afternoon brought his career tally at the time to 19-333 (390 points), overtaking Earley’s long-standing record of 17-335 (386).
He has continued to add considerably to that record since. In the 2026 Championship, Murtagh finished with an outstanding 1-31 from five games, placing him among the leading scorers in the country. His campaign included a memorable 1-10 against Mayo in the Connacht semi-final, before he had the honour of lifting the Nestor Cup as Roscommon captain following the thrilling Connacht Final victory over Galway at King & Moffatt Dr Hyde Park.
For Darragh Heneghan (photo by Ben McShane/Sportsfile), the nomination caps a remarkable breakthrough season at senior inter-county level. The Michael Glaveys forward made his Allianz Football League debut against Kerry in Killarney in January 2026 and quickly established himself in the Roscommon attack.
He made his senior championship debut against New York in April and marked the occasion with a goal. His impact continued throughout the Connacht Championship, including 1-3 against Mayo and a sensational 2-2 against Galway in the Connacht Final, where he was named Player of the Match.
Heneghan finished his debut championship campaign with an outstanding 5-07, with all five goals coming from play.
His performances also earned him the PwC GAA/GPA Footballer of the Month award for May. By late May, he was leading the entire All-Ireland Championship for scores from play – a remarkable achievement in his first season at this level.
For Diarmuid, this is his second PwC All-Star nomination, having previously been nominated in 2024, while Darragh earns his first nomination following an impressive 2026 campaign. The nominations are fitting recognition for two Roscommon forwards at very different stages of their inter-county careers – Murtagh, the experienced captain and the county’s record scorer, and Heneghan, whose exceptional debut season announced him as one of the exciting new talents in the inter-county game.

The PwC All-Stars will be presented at a gala black-tie ceremony on Friday, October 30th at the RDS, Dublin.
